CCTV INSPECTION:

A small camera is pushed along the pipe allowing us to see images from within the pipe including tree roots, defects, blockages. CCTV can identify any issues which are hidden from sight above ground and allow us to determine the cause of the blockage.

Drains degrade over time and one of most serious home drainage problems, that can affect all types of property is that posed by leaking drains. Everyday products like soaps, shampoos, detergents and so on add to the problem by building up around the solid material. As time passes drains and sewers can deteriorate leading to structural problems through wall collapse or ingress from plant roots / builders shovels. Finally the accumulation becomes too thick to allow any water to pass through and it is then that the drains get completely plugged resulting in a blocked drain. If you notice water getting accumulated in your tub or sink, you definitely have choked drainage. Some Victorian Terraced Houses, have generic potential drainage problems and need regular inspections to identify maintenance requirements before an emergency happens.

Most of the time, the drainage problem experienced is due to at least two of the following types:

  1. Deposits accumilation, like FOG (Fat Oil Grease) accumulation, hair clots, debris...

  2. Stagnant water lying in the drainage channel rather than flowing through the system. In particular if you see black and possibly foul smelling water then there is almost certainly a blockage problem.

Projecting objects through the wall pipe. Examples of this type are: tree root blockages, projecting fence posts through the pipe, and projecting utilities

Do you have a monster in your backyard?

Tree roots are the most harmful element to your buried pipe. They cause stubborn blockages and severe cracking in the pipe walls. Roots growing into pipes aren’t a coincidence. Unfortunately, if your pipes have leaks, for instance via fissures, loose or damaged joints or cracks, the flow of water through the pipes produces vapor that escapes through to the warmer soil that surrounds the pipe. Tree roots are very persistent and surprisingly strong, they will take advantage of any and every opportunity to get inside sewer pipes and frow toward the sourse of the vapor. In short, your pipe is an excellent source of nutrients to nearby trees, and that is why they instinctively target it. Cleared roots grow back stronger and very quickly, especially in drier months. Hydro Jetting nozzles to suit cutting and clearing of tree root blockages are the best method for clearing this problem. The blocking of drainage pipes causes back-up that leads to unsanitary conditions. Even when the pipes aren’t completely blocked, the decay of dead roots can cause noxious gasses to infiltrate your home or business.

Handy tip: Plant trees at least 10 feet from the pipes and preferably use slow-growing species and ask your local nursery if the tree is known to have aggressive root systems.

Drain clearing techniques ranging from maual tools such as eels to advanced industrial strength Jetters will clear out any blockage. CCTV inspections can be a peventitive/maintenence tool and detect minor issues in the pipe before they turn into something more serious. CCTV Survey can be carried out with little fuss and disruption but it will quickly establish the facts by pin-pointing the exact location of the problem.

CCTV surveys of 100mm and 150mm sewers and drains for straight runs upto 50m. They can be used in 225mm pipes, and will negotiate some changes of direction. All our CCTV cameras are self leveling.

Having a blocked drain/pipe means trouble, it will become severe if not attended and you may notice leaks in or around your property which will worsen as time progresses.

A CCTV survey will not determine that a drain is watertight or leaking, but it will show and locate areas of damage or blockage. This is why CCTV is often used in our LEAK DETECTION SERVICES.
